Working Lots

August 29, 2008

Been working a lot this week. Maybe I’m playing catch up for ditching last week and going to Vancouver for a few days with my aunt on vacation. Its Thursday night, I’m still up writing emails at 10:30, and I went to work at 6:30am. What am I doing? Do I have a life? Yes. But it takes place in the office. Sometimes its nice to kinda zone out and just work all day. Close the blinds, not pay attention to the clock or when you get hungry-its actually very productive. All it took me was a chai tea latte (with soy) at 6am and a breakfast burrito (which was actually a veggie burrito) at around 11:30 and I was good to go until dinner.

Thats one of the drags of being an independent contractor-or self employed. Im not hourly and I’m not at liberty to complain to anyone or go to HR and ask for more sick days.

Doesn’t matter, I still have a good life.

My family really is nuts! But, after some thought, thats why you love them, its what a family needs. Ever seen the movie Pleaseantville? Who wants a family like that? I grew up in a suburb of North San Diego. Mom and Dad have their own business (yes, its a mom and pop shop), I have an older sister, younger brother, and 3 dogs. I live close to the beach, did well in school, played sports…but Im still nuts (or everyone else in my family is). But the moral of the story is to always love your family and learn from altercations (a fancy word for fighting). Try to put yourself in their shoes and look at it from their perspective-if you’re not then that is being selfish-something Im definitely guilty of and aware of, yet also very conscious of.

The surf is small and kinda windy, blah.

So this is my first post. I should start by explaining what this blog is…its about me, my family and the things that I think of. I will also post things that I think are cool, creative and ways to make a million dollars. You can only read-on if you promise not to steal any of these ideas. I’ve been ripped off before and it hurt. Remember that Nike commercial where Kobe Bryant jumps over an Austin Martin? That was my idea and they completely ripped me off. Only a few months before that I did a video with college roommate Conor Colwell where a skater ollies off a ramp and over a car, just as the car crushes the ramp into a million pieces. At first, I was flattered that Nike stole my idea-and everyone told me to sue. I didn’t, I don’t like court-despite the fact that I am pretty mad about it (but over it).

Back to me, I just celebrated my 24th birthday. My friends took me out and got me drunk-and it felt pretty good. I can’t remember the last time I actually did something on my birthday. I then tried to stay sober for a month (which included opening day of the Del Mar Races) and it was good fun.
